What are the differences between the Audi Q5 and SQ5?

The Audi Q5 and SQ5 are both luxury SUVs that look very similar on the surface. Both have dynamic exterior styling, roomy interiors and are fun to drive, but that’s largely where the similarity ends.

The SQ5 is an upgraded version of the Q5 in terms of power. It offers a V6 engine over the Q5’s inline-four, and the nearly $10,000 difference in price reflects that. However, that also makes it somewhat less fuel-efficient at only 19 mpg in the city vs. the 22 mpg of the Q5.

In terms of performance between the Audi Q5 and SQ5, the SQ5 offers more horsepower and torque than the Q5. However, the towing capacity for both is about the same. Both vehicles have the same turning radius, so maneuverability is equal in tight spots. The SQ5 comes with a 349 horsepower turbocharged V6 engine that definitely gives it a lot more pep driving around. The Q5 offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that still makes a respectable 248 horsepower and gets slightly better gas mileage. If an aggressive engine isn’t for you, then the Q5’s ability will do just fine. Both models have an eight-speed automatic transmission with AWD.

As previously mentioned, both of these luxury SUVs look very similar on the outside and inside. The SQ5 features quad exhaust outlets, a panoramic sunroof, up to 21-inch sport wheels, a gloss black roof spoiler and a rear diffuser. The Q5 has roughly the same equipment on the outside. Both vehicles are roughly the same width and the same dimensions overall. Both vehicles have room for five people and plenty of cargo room. Inside, you’ll find heated front seats, navigation, infotainment and USB ports.

One of the key features of the SQ5 is its performance suspension. This allows the vehicle to gain a tighter hold on curvy roads. It also offers an optional dynamic steering system, which allows you to adjust the steering ability based on your driving situation. For example, if you’re driving on the highway or taking it slower through the city, you can adjust based on each. Both the Audi Q5 and SQ5 offer a four year, 50,000-mile warranty. The Q5 has five-star safety ratings, whereas the SQ5 hasn’t been rated yet.

The bottom line between these two SUVs is that the SQ5 is an upgraded version of the Q5 that offers a more aggressive engine and sporty handling. If power and performance are your biggest concerns, then the SQ5 is a good choice. The Q5 has a milder package in that respect, however, if cost is a concern, then the nearly $10,000 price difference definitely makes it look more attractive than the SQ5.
